The change is a $10 statement of change filed through the FirstStop portal, and NDCC 10-01.1-03 enumerates every fee the Secretary collects under the registered agent chapter without an expedite among them, so no expedited service exists. That section also waives the fee where the address change results from rezoning or postal reassignment

Note: North Dakota charges $10 to change the registered agent through the FirstStop portal. File online through FirstStop, which is the only route the Secretary of State currently documents. A paper form, SFN 13019, exists on nd.gov but is revision 06-2015, is not linked from any current SOS page, and prints a fax number that no longer matches the agency contact page. The form is the same for all entity types - you just select the correct option when filing. Credit card payments are accepted online. For mail filings, checks should be payable to "Secretary of State." You cannot change the registered agent through your annual report in North Dakota - a separate Statement of Change filing is required.

How to change your registered agent in North Dakota

Choose your new registered agent first.
Do not file the change form until you have a new agent lined up. The new agent has to consent to the appointment, and most states will not process the change without that consent in hand. If you let coverage lapse, the North Dakota SOS can administratively dissolve your LLC.
Two ways to go. Name yourself or someone you know. Nothing to pay beyond the state filing fee above, but your address goes in the public record and somebody has to be there during business hours to accept legal mail.

You can file this online through the North Dakota Secretary of State portal. The form requires your LLC name, the new agent name and address, and a signature. The new agent must consent to the appointment.

Pay the $10 filing fee.
Pay by credit card during the online filing. A small processing surcharge usually applies. Mail filings accept check or money order; confirm the exact payee on the form before you send it, because it is not the Secretary of State in every state.

Notify your old agent.
Once the change is processed, your old agent's responsibility ends. If you are paying them an annual fee, cancel that subscription so it does not auto-renew. Most agents do not refund the unused portion, so time the cancellation against your renewal date.

Verify the change in state records.
Search your LLC name on the North Dakota SOS business search and confirm the new registered agent is listed. Check back after the processing window shown above.
Important to know about North Dakota
- North Dakota does NOT allow registered agent changes during the annual report (unlike many states). A separate Statement of Change filing is required.
- No expedited service is available. Processing typically takes 7-10 business days, but some sources cite up to 30 days during busy periods.
- File through FirstStop. That is the only route the Secretary of State currently documents; a 2015 paper form exists on nd.gov but is not linked from any current SOS page and prints a fax number the agency no longer lists.
